Aschheim – Swabian architects plan new town hall – district of Munich

The Aschheim municipal council has selected an architect’s office to plan and design the municipality’s new town hall. All fractions unanimously agreed to the proposal to entrust the office of Kauffmann, Theilig and Partners from Ostfildern near Stuttgart with the new construction of the representative building in the center of the town. The decision was preceded by a year-long, sometimes violent dispute over the demolition of the old building.

In 2018, experts had certified that the previous town hall, which was more than 100 years old, had serious deficiencies in fire protection and statics. The municipal administration then moved out. A political dispute broke out between the factions over the question of whether the municipality should renovate the old building and add a new building or tear it down and create a larger new building. This now seems resolved.

The chosen office convinced the Aschheim decision-makers in particular with its urban planning concept, which envisages an inviting town hall square. The architects also propose dormers facing the street, reminiscent of the demolished old building. The draft will be adjusted in the coming months. An information pavilion is to be set up at the construction site for citizens.
