Aschheim – Educational history – District of Munich

The pandemic of the past few months has shown how important it is to learn from history and at the same time be open to breaking new ground. The adult education center in the east of the district (VHS Olm) has chosen this knowledge as the thematic focus for its winter semester program, which will be distributed as a printed booklet to households in Kirchheim, Aschheim and Feldkirchen this week. “Life – yesterday, today, tomorrow” is the title under which the VHS brings together around 500 courses and events.

In addition to classic formats such as health groups, language courses and guided tours – for example through the former concentration camp in Dachau, the Olympic Village in Munich or Regensburg – the VHS Olm is increasingly offering online seminars. 150 lectures and courses take place digitally or as hybrid events and thus enable participation for people who do not want to be with other people during these times.

The online format has already proven itself in presentations, but practical VHS content also works well at home, as the program proves. Interested parties can go on a culinary journey together online and discover new dishes under expert guidance on the screen at home, from traditional chicken curry from India to pumpkin ravioli made from regional ingredients.

Exciting social development issues are dealt with in the lecture series “Knowledge live”, which is offered in cooperation with other adult education centers; Experts from various specialist areas will give lectures on topics ranging from climate policy to history and IT security. The lectures can be attended free of charge after registration.

The program starts in September, the courses can already be booked: online via www.vhsolm.de or during the opening hours of the office on 089/990 17 70.
