Aschheim – 50 years adult education center – district of Munich

It all started with 29 courses, back in 1973. A municipal special-purpose association was intended to enable the residents of the communities of Kirchheim, Aschheim and Feldkirchen east of Munich to continue their education, regardless of their financial means and without major hurdles and long distances. Today, 50 years later, the adult education center in the east of the district, called VHS Olm for short, is an established educational institution that hosts around a thousand events a year.

For the anniversary year, managing director Carmen Stahl and her team are presenting a varied program with some prominent names, which at the same time remains true to the principle of the founding years. “For you, for me, for everyone” the VHS titled its program. That means that then as now, the focus is on the course participants, says Stahl. The goal is affordable education for everyone. For example, there are free lectures on political and historical topics. In addition to workshops, excursions and language courses, those who are interested can do sports or art, learn to play an instrument or improve their PC skills. In order to rediscover what the VHS Olm has to offer, it invites you to an open day in Aschheim on Saturday, March 4th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The adult education center celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer with former and current members at a festival in the foyer of the town hall in Feldkirchen. On Friday, June 30, the cabaret artist Christian Springer will perform there, as well as the musician Joseph G. Conners.

The VHS Olm program will be distributed to households in Aschheim, Kirchheim and Feldkirchen these days. You can also browse through and book courses online at www.vhsolm.de.
