Ascension traffic: freeways are largely free again | NDR.de – News

After partly full motorways in the north at lunchtime, the situation on the roads calmed down again on Thursday afternoon. The autobahns are largely freely passable.

Drivers only have to be patient on the A1. There, the traffic between Neuenkirchen/Vörden and Holdorf in the direction of Bremen is backed up over a distance of five kilometers. Previously, there had been traffic jamming there for eleven kilometers at times. Traffic jams on the A7 at Dreieck Walsrode and near Flensburg have now cleared, as has a traffic jam on the A31 near Weener.

Construction sites cause traffic jams on the A1 and A2

More patience was required yesterday at the start of the long weekend. The Autobahn 1 was particularly affected – due to a construction site, traffic was backed up five kilometers between Neuenkirchen/Vörden and Lohne/Dinklage. Traffic also stopped further north near Oyten due to a construction site. On the A2 west of Hanover, a daily construction site caused a four-kilometer traffic jam near Garbsen.

Hanover and Hamburg become the bottleneck

The ADAC had warned in advance of full roads, especially in the direction of the North Sea and in the Harz Mountains. The automobile club currently sees the biggest traffic jam trap on the A1 from Cologne via Bremen, Hamburg up to Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein. The same applies to the A2, which runs from Berlin through Lower Saxony to Dortmund. As is so often the case, the metropolitan area around Hanover is a traffic bottleneck. Things can also get tight on the A7 between Hamburg and Hanover and Hamburg heading north past Kiel to Flensburg.

The return wave rolls on Sunday

According to ADAC, however, there is no risk of traffic jams on the A20 and the roads in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and it remained quiet here on Wednesday. The ADAC expects less traffic on the roads on Friday as well. The return wave will reach its peak on Sunday afternoon.

Schools in the north no classes on Friday

The Friday between Ascension Day and the weekend is a bridging day at schools in many federal states – including in Lower Saxony, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The schools in Hamburg have already had no lessons for the whole week.
