Artur Jorge, former PSG coach, dies

Arthur Jorge is gone. Having spent notably on the bench of Matra Racing between 1987 and 1989, then on that of PSG twice, between 1991 and 1994 and a few months in 1998-1999, the Portuguese died at the age of 78. “It is with deep sadness that the family of Artur Jorge Braga de Melo Teixeira announces his death this morning in Lisbon, after a long illness. He died peacefully, surrounded by his closest family“, announced his entourage in a press release.

Former striker for Porto, Académica, Benfica and Belenenses, and ex-Portuguese international (16 caps), Arthur Jorge, who also coached Porto (1984-1987) and Benfica (1994-95), entered the history of the PSG by winning the Coupe de France in 1993 and the Championship in 1994. Portugal coach between 1996 and 1997, he made a final stint with Mouloudia d’Algiers in 2014-2015.
