Carl Andre became famous with radical minimal art. The accusation of having killed his wife Ana Mendieta haunted him until the end. He has now died at the age of 88.

There have been times when Carl Andre’s name has reliably topped the list of artists of so-called Minimal Art. For example, the exhibition “When Attitudes Become Form” that Harald Szeemann showed at the Kunsthalle Bern in 1969 and which is now generally considered groundbreaking and legendary, even though it had comparatively few visitors at the time. However, in the case of the work with catalog number 1, these few were faced with 36 copper plates, each 50 centimeters square and only half a centimeter thick, folded together to form an area of ​​three by three meters.
