Artificial mouse embryos grown with a heartbeat – Knowledge

Two teams of researchers independently created artificial mouse embryos from three different types of stem cells – no egg, no sperm and no uterus. The heart of these “embryoids” began to beat, the structures for the brain and other organs began to develop, and a yolk sac also formed. “It’s just incredible that we’ve come this far,” said Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz of the University of Cambridge, the lead author of one study, in a university press release. They had invested ten years in this project.
