Festivals like this were her “safe spaces”, places where she felt safe and understood. “You see familiar faces everywhere, you just dance,” says the young woman into the camera. “You don’t know their names, but they are your best friends.” But the place where Racheli Nachmias danced into the sunrise with thousands of others would become known as the exact opposite of a safe space: a deadly trap. At the Supernova festival in southern Israel on October 7th, Hamas terrorists murdered around 260 visitors and kidnapped more than 100. They pursued them across the fields like a hunt, ambushed the fleeing people, kidnapped them as hostages, threw grenades into shelters, etc where visitors hid from the attackers.
