“Our Olga had it good with us,” says the opening credits of all three parts of the documentary series Among Germans. Forced labor in the Nazi state – a transfiguration that was often heard in Germany after the end of the Second World War when it came to the question of how the many forced laborers were treated. The narrator’s voice in the opening credits immediately counters: “Had she?” The authors Matthias Schmidt and Vít Poláček take the time three times 52 minutes, a total of two and a half hours, to prove that all the Olgas were anything but well off in the years between 1938 and 1945 when they were forced to work are from the Nazi state.
