Art and anti-Semitism: What’s next for the Documenta? – Politics

The Indonesian collective Ruangrupa was supposed to bring the perspectives of the Global South to the Documenta Fifteen, they were supposed to blow through the elite art world. That also happened, just differently than expected. The story of a scandal.

This exhibition is a process. One who constantly interacts, reacts, reorganizes, that’s what the organizers of the world art show in the German provinces have announced more than once. But things don’t go quite as quickly as visitors to Kassel might initially think: “System error²” is written on a large banner on the front of the main train station, which, of course, is labeled as a cultural station in the documenta city. “Cartoons about the madness of the world” can be seen here. Has the Documenta Fifteen made its own failure a topic? But then it turns out that the show here at the train station has nothing to do with the Documenta, but had already opened as “Caricatura” a week before.
