Arrested for stealing a skull from a crypt during heritage days

A man, whose age was not specified, was arrested Sunday afternoon in Lyon, after stealing a skull during heritage days. The suspect had gone the day before to the crypt of the Sainte-Croix chapel located in the 6th arrondissement and open to the public, reports BFM Lyon.

The monks, who manage the place, saw him fleeing around 3 p.m. They quickly noticed that one of the skulls belonging to the ossuary of this chapel had disappeared.

The crypt contains the bones of hundreds of Lyonnais massacred by the French army during the Revolution.

The individual could not resist returning to the scene on Sunday afternoon. Informed of the theft, the police arrested him before he was taken into custody.
