Arrested after suspected hostage-taking in a coach

After an alleged hostage-taking in a coach, the police arrested a suspect in the evening on Autobahn 9 between Hilpoltstein and Greding in Bavaria. A police spokesman said there was an access by the police around 9:30 p.m. According to initial findings, no one was injured. It is still unclear whether the perpetrator really had a weapon with him. He claimed so, said the spokesman.

The A9 had previously been closed in both directions due to the police operation. The police spoke of a “threat situation” in the coach because of a possibly armed passenger.

SEK access after hours of use

The spokesman said that forces of the SEK had accessed after hours of use. Detonations could also be heard. According to the spokesman, these were due to blinding agents that the SEK used to distract the perpetrator.

Only the three bus drivers were last on the bus with the allegedly armed passenger. All other passengers were outside on the hard shoulder. A police negotiating group tried to contact the man. When this finally succeeded, the 30-year-old let the driver get off the bus. When the SEK was subsequently attacked, he was arrested without resistance.

Long traffic jams on the A9, also the ICE route closed

According to the information, the operation had started around 5:30 p.m. The Serbian coach with 14 people on board was on its way to Munich. The incident was apparently triggered by an argument on the bus, in which a woman and a man were injured in the face. The suspect is said to have shouted confused stuff, according to the “Bild” newspaper.

Whether the man was actually armed could not be definitively clarified on Tuesday evening. At first, no weapon was found on him, the police said. But you have to search the bus first. The arrested person was to be interrogated that night.

The police completely blocked Autobahn 9 between the Hilpoltstein and Greding junctions in both directions. Motorists got stuck, long traffic jams formed. The A9 was only free again at 11 p.m. The adjacent ICE line between Nuremberg and Munich has also been temporarily closed.
