Arrest of 13 people, including 7 on ultra-right S files, for swastika tags in Paris

France continues to face anti-Semitic acts. A total of 13 people, including seven on ultra-right S files, were arrested on Saturday evening in Paris for swastika tags on the ground in the 17th arrondissement of the capital.

The people were arrested in flagrante delicto, said a police source, specifying that the events took place in the Wagram district.

Anti-Semitic acts on the rise since October 7

The Paris prosecutor’s office, which entrusted the investigations to the police station of the 17th arrondissement of the capital, indicated that the 13 individuals had been arrested for damage or deterioration of the property of others “because of race, ethnicity, nation or religion” and for public incitement to hatred, violence or racial discrimination.

These arrests come against a backdrop of a sharp rise in anti-Semitic acts in France since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. More than 1,500 anti-Semitic acts have been committed since October 7, according to the latest figures communicated by the authorities. Which represents “the equivalent of three times those recorded in 2022”, lamented Crif president Yonathan Arfi on November 19.
