Arrest after suspected hostage-taking in coach – Bavaria

The Autobahn 9 was fully closed in both directions on Tuesday evening due to a major police operation between Hilpoltstein and Greding. The police spoke of a “threat situation”. A 30-year-old man was arrested that evening.

According to the current state of the investigation, there was a physical confrontation between several passengers in the bus for reasons that have not yet been clarified, with two people being slightly injured a message from the police. Due to the dispute, the bus stopped on the hard shoulder between the Hilpoltstein and Greding junctions, and most of the guests got off. Three bus drivers and the man who was later arrested and who, according to witnesses, was carrying a gun, remained in the vehicle that was heading towards Munich and Serbia.

A police negotiating group tried to resolve the situation. The officers were on site with a large number, including special forces. The officers used a cell phone to contact the bus drivers, who then also got off the bus.

At around 9:30 p.m., police officers were able to arrest the suspect on the bus. “Without problems,” as the head of the operations center said. “A weapon has not yet been found. The bus is still being searched,” tweeted the police at 10:10 pm.

In the meantime, there were no trains running on the nearby Munich-Nuremberg ICE line. The closure of the motorway should also be lifted in the course of the evening.
