Arranging a landing: what to think about?
The staircase is above all a place of passage, and like the hallway, it is frequently one of the spaces left behind in the house. However, in housing where space tends to be limited, every square meter counts, and the landing offers real potential!
To arrange the landing, however, it is important not to lose sight of the practical aspect. It is essential to be able to circulate in a fluid way and, above all, in complete safety.
When spacious enough, the landing can easily be used as an additional room. In this loft with generous volumes, we have thus opted for a bookcase, in which we have even installed a sofa on which it is good to read or just chill.
In a smaller space, we will stick to a classic: the side table or the end of the sofa, on which we will possibly have a table lamp. In this case, it is essential again to think practical: to go up and down safely, it is recommended to turn on the light before taking the stairs. It is therefore judicious to opt for a socket coupled to switches, located at the bottom and top of the stairs, or to associate the table lamp with additional lighting: wall lights or suspension illuminating the whole of the cage. ‘stairs.
Whatever type of layout you envision for the landing, start by establishing your pallet. For a harmonious decor, consider the staircase as a whole. From one floor to another, it is wise to keep a harmonious decoration, keeping the same colors and the same style.
Playing with hues – or with their intensity – can, however, be smart in structuring the space and creating a more cozy impression. Here, for example, we use a lighter shade, which contrasts with the stairwell, to isolate the office area, which benefits from a fresher and brighter atmosphere.
Building a landing: the best ideas
For arranging the landing, the simplest ideas are often the best! Because if they are classic, some options always have a maximum effect.
When the landing is long and not very wide, bet on the combination of the console and the wall decoration. The mirror is a safe bet when the space lacks a little light. Depending on the configuration of your stairwell, you may prefer a simple picture or a wall of frames.
Another timeless classic: the armchair installed on the landing. In this classic chic interior, we opted for a stylish armchair. In a Mid Century-inspired decoration, we prefer the Scandinavian design armchair in the spirit of the 1950s, or a tulip armchair.
The armchair on the landing is far from being limited to a purely decorative role. It can provide a cozy space for reading or for having a phone conversation. We therefore do not hesitate to accessorize it, in particular by using additional lighting. Very versatile, the sideboard is easy to install on a long landing, where it will act as a mini-bookcase.
To successfully fit out the landing, its peculiarities are taken into account. If it is illuminated by a window, take the opportunity to install a bench seat that will allow you to take advantage of the natural light, as well as the view.
For the successful layout of the landing, consider this space as a room in its own right, which deserves the same care as the rest of the house. In addition to a pretty decoration, think of the carpet, this essential accessory to warm up the atmosphere and create a cozy effect!
If you do not opt for padded seats, consider furnishing the landing chairs or benches with cushions, which immediately create a more cocooning atmosphere.
Paying attention to the layout and decoration of the landing is good; creating an atmosphere full of life is even better! And in this area, green plants are perfect allies. Only one precaution is necessary: choose the variety according to the light… and taking into account the available space, of course!
The choice of the layout of the landing depends in part on a major element: the floor. Indeed, if your staircase serves several levels, the last landing is likely to be the quietest. In addition, it offers the best view to the outside. It is therefore the privileged landing to set up an office area or an authentic reading area.
Depending on the configuration of your staircase, the landing does not exist… and it can be smart to create it! In this parental suite fitted out in the attic, a combined library and storage space acts as a partition between the bedroom and the stairs. The landing then becomes the dressing room, and the bedroom benefits from more privacy.
Lack of space to fit out the landing? Bet on color! In this very wise interior, we adopted a resolutely arty colored palette, which blows a cheerful and contemporary air on the entire floor!
