Arms shipments: Union joins the traffic light – politics

From circles of the coalition parties it was said that an agreement had been reached in the talks with the Union. CDU leader Friedrich Merz announced on Sunday that the Union factions would submit their own request for the delivery of heavy weapons to Ukraine.

In the Union it was said that the parliamentary group had to decide on this in a meeting scheduled for Wednesday evening. However, it was possible to defuse an important point of contention. Therefore, approval is expected.

In the traffic light draft, it was said that the federal government should implement this as quickly as possible “in line with the resolution of the federal cabinet” with regard to the planned special fund of 100 billion euros for the Bundeswehr. Merz had criticized this in the morning via Twitter.

This passage has been “defused”, it said – and the dispute over the exact form of the planned amendment to the Basic Law has been postponed. The Bundestag can now send a signal of unity in supporting Ukraine. More on this shortly on sz.de
