Are salon treatments better than home treatments for more beautiful skin?

Hydrafacial, microneedling, jet-peel or even oxyface… These American care techniques are less and less unknown to the general public, in particular thanks to their popularization on social networks. Ever more innovative, treatments in institutes are attractive, because they would make it possible to correct a large number of skin problems in just a few sessions, unlike the sometimes tedious home routines, which also require having to wait several weeks or even months, without systematically seeing the expected results…

The added value of the institute

The institutes actually seem to be good ways to be able to target certain skin problems more effectively (hyperpigmentation, acne, dull complexion, etc.). First of all, because in the institute, the beautician will have access to high-dose products that are inaccessible to purchase for the client. “In institutes, there are not the same concentrations of active ingredients”, explains Angie Flava-Lopez, trainer at the Academy Group and skincare expert. Séverine, nurse and head of the aesthetic medicine center Aesthe adds that “for a cream sold directly to the general public, penetration can be 20% to 25%, while for beauty salon treatment 80% of the active ingredients are absorbed by the skin”. This result is possible thanks to specific protocols, exclusively reserved for the use of professionals. Second, the institute offers the expert eye and paw. Some treatments cannot be performed alone, as explained by Morea, head of the institute. Luuma : “Experts can provide you with a developed skin diagnosis and give you a real idea of the needs, because the care is much more advanced”. Finally, the institute is also the choice of experience and comfort since certain types of cleaning, maneuvers and treatments can be carried out there. “For our hydrafacial treatment, for example, we use ultra-developed machines and products reserved for professionals,” continues Morea.

Not without each other

Even if the treatments in institutes are particularly effective, they in no way cancel the need for daily maintenance at home. “You have to continue to have a complete routine at home even if you come regularly to do institute treatments at home,” explains skincare expert Angie Flava-Lopez.

Finally, the two are complementary and not replaceable. A care routine adapted to your skin on the advice of a beautician will perfect the results obtained in institutes and help them to last. Beyond correcting skin problems, having a skin routine is essential to prevent but also improve the condition of your skin and treat your skin barrier against daily external aggressions.

For a good routine, the essentials are: morning and evening cleansing. Before going to bed, it is necessary to practice double cleansing to remove traces of pollution, (make-up removal using micellar water or a balm, even if you do not wear make-up, then wash with a suitable cleanser). In the morning, a moisturizing day cream and sun protection to be reapplied every two hours in the event of sun exposure. In the evening, we favor a serum according to the needs of the skin, with an active ingredient that will come to treat (for example, retinol if the skin tolerates it well) and we can also introduce an exfoliating lotion to be used twice a week just after the cleanser step. A few pro tips: Don’t hesitate to warm the serum in your hand before applying it. Never place the pipette on the skin for fear of contaminating it. We never mix the products together to keep the active ingredients intact.

Treatments in institutes are not compulsory

It will be understood that home care is necessary because the skin must be protected and cleaned every day, but the reverse is not systematic. The care in institutes them, remain only strongly recommended, in particular in anti-aging prevention. “We know that from the age of 25 we already lose collagen and hyaluronic acid”, underlines Séverine of the Aesthé Institute. This may be when one decides to start regular visits to stimulate collagen production. Angie Flava-Lopez adds that salon treatments, even when you have beautiful, healthy skin, remain the “best ways to prevent sagging skin”.

To correct, we can very well start at 18 or 40 if we need to. With an attack cure once every two weeks depending on the treatment, over several months. In prevention, we can go on once a month or even every two months. Otherwise, you can even get phototherapy masks or other high-performance care tools from specialists like Current Body. These care machines can be used at home and comply with the directives relating to medical devices.

No rules! It all depends on the condition of his skin, his desire and especially the diagnosis made by a professional.
