The SPD, the Greens and the FDP have agreed: There should not be a general speed limit on motorways in the future either. More and more people are in favor of such a measure as the ARD Germany trend for the ARD morning magazine shows.
Even in the exploratory talks, the SPD, Greens and FDP cleared away a possible conflict issue from their government cooperation: There should be no general speed limit on German autobahns, even in the case of a traffic light coalition. On this point, the FDP prevailed.
But the traffic light parties do not affect the mood of the people in the country with this decision: When asked about sensible measures to protect the environment and the climate, a clear majority (60 percent) said in ARD Germany trend, a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour on the freeway is going in the right direction. This value has increased by three percentage points compared to June. On the other hand, 38 percent of those surveyed think a general speed limit is the wrong way to go.
In comparison, rising prices for food, fuel and energy as a contribution to climate protection are met with clear rejection. Currently, only 39 percent consider an increase in the price of animal foods to be the right measure – nine percentage points less than in June. On the other hand, 57 percent consider higher prices for meat and dairy products to be the wrong direction. A possible further increase in the price of gasoline is met with even clearer rejection: 78 percent are against, 19 percent are in favor. 84 percent see higher energy prices critically, only 14 percent can get used to such a measure.
Not a clear favorite for the CDU chairmanship
While the SPD, the Greens and the FDP are already working on a joint government program, the CDU is faced with a new line-up after its defeat in the federal election. When it comes to the future occupation of the party chairmanship, the respondents currently do not have a clear favorite: Of the politicians under discussion, Friedrich Merz is the most likely to be given the office with 23 percent. 19 percent think Norbert Röttgen is most suitable, 11 percent say this about Jens Spahn. Six percent are in favor of Ralph Brinkhaus and five percent in favor of Carsten Linnemann. A good third of German citizens cannot or do not want to commit themselves to the question.
In the ranks of CDU supporters, Friedrich Merz is a little more clearly ahead of his competitors than in the general population, but here too he is far from a majority: a good one in three CDU supporters (36 percent) is most likely to trust him to be party chairman. One in four (25 percent) is most likely to think Norbert Röttgen is suitable. Jens Spahn would prefer 14 percent, Carsten Linnemann nine percent and Ralph Brinkhaus six percent. Every tenth CDU supporter cannot or does not want to choose between the named politicians at the moment.
