“Fridays for Future” has been taking to the streets for more climate protection for five years. But the activists don’t reach many people with this: three quarters of Germans are loud ARD GermanyTrend little or no influence.
They will be taking to the streets again in hundreds of cities on Friday: the activists of the “Fridays for Future” movement have been protesting for more climate protection for years. However, according to a current survey by the… GermanyTrends in the ARD morning magazine there is little among people in Germany.
For three quarters of Germans (75 percent), the demonstrations and the Swedish “Fridays for Future” initiator Greta Thunberg have little (35 percent) or even no influence (40 percent) on their personal attitude to climate and environmental issues. Only one in four (23 percent) feels strongly (19 percent) or very strongly (four percent) influenced by the protest movement.
Hardly any influence on supporters of the AfD, FDP, Union and SPD
AfD supporters in particular are hardly impressed by “Fridays for Future” – only ten percent said that the movement had an influence on their personal views on environmental issues. For the FDP it was 18 percent and for the Union parties 22 percent. The movement also does not play an important role in the attitudes of SPD supporters; for 28 percent, “Fridays for Future” has an influence on their climate awareness.
The demonstrations made the greatest impression on Green Party supporters (45 percent). In East Germany the perceived influence on one’s own attitude is lower (16 percent) than in West Germany (25 percent).
Sunday question: The Greens and FDP are gaining slightly
There is little movement on the Sunday question: If there were a federal election this Sunday, the Union would again be the strongest faction and would get 28 percent, which means that the CDU and CSU are one percentage point compared to the previous one ARD GermanyTrend would lose.
The AfD confirms its result from the end of August and would record 22 percent. The SPD would end up in third place with 16 percent. The Greens can gain one percentage point. 15 percent would vote for the party. The FDP also recorded an increase of one percentage point, which would reach seven percent. The Left would not be represented in the new Bundestag at an unchanged four percent.

Results are rounded to whole percentages to avoid false expectations of precision. For all representative surveys, fluctuation ranges must be taken into account. In the case of a survey with 1,000 respondents, these amount to around three percentage points for large parties and around one point for smaller parties. In addition, the rounding error is significant for small parties. For these reasons, no party is shown below three percent in the Sunday question.
