ARD and ZDF show films from Chinese propaganda channels – media

Rare animals, rough landscapes, picturesque traditions: In the past few weeks, German television, Erste and Phoenix, have shown nature and animal films from China, so apparently quite apolitical formats. But appearances can be deceptive, especially when these films tell of regions like Tibet or Xinjiang, where Beijing brutally oppresses minorities. And the filmmaker’s perspective is quite one-sided: One that fits the narrative of the Communist Party (KP) exactly. This was involved in the productions in the form of its propaganda station China Central Television (CCTV), which is in the hands of the Communist Party, or other organizations. While representatives of the ethnic groups sharply criticize the broadcasts, the broadcasters defend them.
