The designation of “gypsy camp” thus refers to internment during the Second World War, to the policies of forced sedentarization since 1945 and to the creation of designated places for travellers. »
Recalling that during the Second World War, 7,000 people designated as “nomads” were interned in some forty camps in France and that thousands of other people were placed under house arrest throughout the war, the Dilcrah calls for “never to give in to the trivialization of racism, anti-Semitism and anti-Gypsyism. “Anti-Gypsyism has no place in public debate or in our Republic,” insists the delegation.
