Arab Israeli: “For me this country is heaven and hell at the same time”

The horror of October 7th was a turning point in their lives: four Israelis look back on their 2023 – and tell us what they hope for the coming year. In this episode: the Palestinian Israeli Maher Manneh, for whom the social climate becomes so uncomfortable that he wants to emigrate.

A cafe in Jaffa, the old part of Tel Aviv. There are oriental teapots and golden plates on the tables. Maher Manneh, 51, did not choose this place for a meeting by chance. The father of three is Arab. And Christian. An absolute minority Israel. A cross necklace dangles around his neck. A man between all the chairs one can sit on in this country.
