Aquadom in Berlin was one of them: These are the 10 largest aquariums in the world

The Berlin Aquadom in the Radisson Blu Hotel was considered the largest cylinder aquarium in the world. In the night from December 15 to 16, 2022, the 25 meter high pool with a diameter of 12 meters burst. Since then, rescue workers have been trying to clean up the chaos in the foyer and around the hotel. According to the emergency services, there are only a few survivors among the approximately 1,500 fish that lived in the aquarium.

It is an incident that no one would have expected. There are usually strict regulations for the safety of public aquariums. It is not for nothing that they are considered a popular tourist attraction. Every year, thousands upon thousands of visitors flock to the aquarium, which is part of the Sea Life zoo chain. In many metropolises worldwide there are aquariums of superlatives. Especially countries like China, Singapore and the United States keep outdoing each other with larger water basins and rarer sea creatures.

The largest aquariums are in China and Singapore

Until 2014, the Marine Life Park in Sentosa, Singapore was considered the aquarium with the world’s largest viewing window. But then China followed suit and replaced the aquarium window with a width of 36 meters and a length of 8.3 meters. Since then, the world’s largest viewing window has been found at the Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Aquarium. Incidentally, this is also the world’s largest of its kind and holds a total of five world records, including for the largest aquarium tank in the world. In the picture gallery we show you the ten largest aquariums in the world.
