“Working as an events manager is really my dream job,” says Dominika Veit, “that’s why it was very important to me from day one to do my best.” The 22-year-old completed her training as an events manager at Brandarena GmbH in Ismaning and has now been honored by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce as one of the 124 best trainees of the current year. She is happy about her very good performance, but says that it wasn’t the final grade that counted from the start, but her commitment during the training itself. She is all the happier now that she was taken on by the company after completing her training and is now working as a junior project manager for the event agency.
Before starting this apprenticeship, Veit had already completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk, but was never really able to identify with the profession. “I was missing something,” she says, “which is why, after completing my first apprenticeship, I kept looking for a job that suited me.” She found him at a job fair, she says, and then “everything was crystal clear.” “What makes the job so special for me is that it combines something practical with something theoretical, in a unique way.” The fact that she has created a real result at the end of a project, an event where people meet, is what makes Veit her job. “Basically, the core of my job is to bring people together – what could be nicer?”
“It often turns out differently than you think.”
The 22-year-old explains that her training period at Brandarena flew by. “I felt super comfortable from day one because I was given a lot of credit without leaving me alone with my tasks.” Of course, the corona pandemic had a strong impact on her training period. Sometimes, says Veit, the pandemic and its restrictions made her despair: “I finally found my dream job, I was really motivated and couldn’t work and learn like I normally would have.” However, it was precisely these hard times and difficult circumstances that made her “really” grow. “I would like to pass this on to all trainees as well,” she says. “It often turns out differently than you think, and then following through with a plan and not letting go of your dream is a very important experience.”
A total of eight of the best in the year completed their training at a company in the Munich district. At a ceremony in Munich’s GOP Varieté-Theater, the top trainees were presented with certificates by the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria. Christoph Höhler, chairman of the IHK regional committee in the district of Munich, is proud of the eight young people: “With their excellent examination results, they have shown how well our vocational training works even during the corona pandemic and how committed they are to their training are.” Leicher is also proud of the training companies in the district, which have made it their mission to support young people in and with training. In doing so, they significantly and effectively counteracted the rapidly growing shortage of skilled workers.
