If the city treasurer has his way, Munich should not apply to host the International German Gymnastics Festival 2029. Costs of 18 million euros are currently estimated for the event, and because “participation in the organization of a major sporting event is a purely voluntary service by the state capital”, according to the Treasury in its statement on the project, it can “against the background unfortunately not agree with the current financial situation”.
