Apple has released the Developer Strap, an accessory for its Vision Pro VR headset that is intended to make it easier for programmers to develop apps for the device. The Developer Strap has a USB-C port, which the Vision Pro typically doesn’t have.
How 9to5Mac reports, the accessory can only be ordered by registered developers in the USA. The Developer Strap is not available in Apple’s normal online shop or in Apple Stores, but through Apple Developer website.
According to Apple, the developer strap “the development of graphically complex apps and games” accelerate. What this means is that the files, which are probably quite large, do not have to be transferred to the Vision Pro via a WLAN connection in order to test them, but rather directly via a USB cable. The Vision Pro has no ports except for a proprietary connector for the battery.
Developer Strap replaces the normal side strap of the Vision Pro
The developer strap is swapped for one of the Vision Pro’s traditional side straps. Accordingly, the accessory also has a speaker built into the headset’s temples. There is no information about the USB standard used.
Apple’s Vision Pro has just launched in the US. Apple’s first VR headset is not yet available in other parts of the world. Anyone who orders the Vision Pro in the USA from Germany must take a number of special features into account.
Initial tests of the headset are positive, with the displays and hand and room recognition in particular being praised. However, some testers have criticized the weight of the Vision Pro, as well as the headset’s relatively short battery life.
