Apple’s newer iMac, which is said to be launched in 2022, could be named iMac Pro and is rumored to replace the current 27-inch iMac. The silicon from Intel is replaced by the new M1 Pro and Max Chips replaced and the same mini LED display as the new MacBook Pro models used.
This new speculation from the well-known Apple leak Dylandkt is that the new all-in-one will have a 27-inch mini LED display with ProMotion technology (this information originally came from another well-respected leaker, Ross Young (CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants)).

As you can see, the leak has a fairly long list of other options, including a “similar” design to the existing one M1-Powered iMac 24-inch, an HDMI port, an SD card and a USB-C port, as well as dark bezels (instead of the white bezels of the iMac 24-inch).
The base version of the all-in-one is expected to come with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage, and will start at $ 2,000 or more.
Analysis: what about the name – and what about the notch?
The name iMac Pro is apparently not a safe bet, but what Apple has given the PC for the time being, but that could change, Dylandkt says, because the “marketing team can change gears very quickly”. It is currently assumed that the iMac Pro is different from the iMac 24-inch and that the M1 Pro SoC is used and not the pure M1 of the iMac.
As the informant claims, it is a “Pro” device with a “Pro” chip (and a Max alternative, just like the new MacBook ProVersions).
Given the use of the same chips, screen, and other similarities with the new MacBook Pros – maybe even the name – some people are now wondering whether the alleged iMac Pro will have the notch as Dylandkt finds that Face ID is being tested (but is not confirmed). And if so, it will be the same to be controversial like with the new MacBooks?
Maybe we don’t have to wait that long to find out, because the rumored iMac 27-inch could hit the market as soon as next year. The all-in-one PC is slated to appear in the first half of 2022, as the tweet above claims, although Ross Young narrowed that down to Q1 2022. Dylandkt thinks a spring event is the most likely, but this is all speculation, of course, and there is the potential for a delay as there may be chip shortages and other issues.
