Apple has to reduce the production of data glasses – economy

It should be nothing less than a new way of using computers, Apple’s Vision Pro data glasses. But now apparently technical problems hinder the production.

Because of technical problems, Apple is apparently cutting the production targets for the new data glasses. The Chinese contract manufacturer Luxhare is expected to assemble fewer than 400,000 units of the Vision Pro in 2024, the company wrote Financial Times in its Monday edition, citing insiders. Originally, Apple aimed internally for a sales target of one million copies within the first twelve months after the market launch. The newspaper cited the complexity of the product as the reason for lowering the forecast. This makes mass production difficult.

Above all, problems were caused by high error rates with the micro-LEDs for the particularly high-resolution screens of the data glasses. For this reason, the launch of a cheaper entry-level version will also be delayed. Apple introduced the long-awaited Vision Pro a few weeks ago. The data glasses are used, among other things, to immerse oneself in virtual worlds. In addition, apps or objects can be projected into the surrounding space. The control should be done exclusively via eye movements, hands and voice. The device, which starts at $3499, is expected to be available in the US from early 2024.
