Apple’s own developer conference WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) will be held online this year from June 10th to 14th, 2024. The expectations are high: Apple has teased that it wants to show an AI. The event should “Absolutely IIt was said in advance that it would be “ncredible”. So far, the manufacturer has held back when it comes to artificial intelligence. In 2023, however, the iPhone maker bought more AI startups than any other tech giant (we reported).
Apple AI at WWDC?
According to Stocklytics analysts, Apple acquired 32 young AI-focused companies last year. Google follows with 21 acquisitions, Meta with 18 and Microsoft with 17. In terms of quantity, Apple is further ahead when it comes to AI acquisitions, but does not yet have its own solution for this: While Microsoft (“Copilot”), Meta (“Lama”), While Amazon (“Q”) and of course Google (“Gemini”) have already placed concrete LLMs and chatbots on the market, Apple has remained silent so far. In the course of the acquisitions, however, CEO Tim Cook said that his company would be showing its own developments in the field of GenAI for the first time this year. The time has probably come for WWDC. “We are excited to join developers from around the world for an exceptional week of technology and community at WWDC24,” said Susan Prescott, vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations, in a statement blog entry. “WWDC is about sharing new ideas and providing our amazing creators with innovative tools and resources to help them create something even more beautiful.”
Lots of innuendos, no confirmation
A bit cryptic, if you will, but there is an allusion to generative AI here. The allusion embedded above from Greg Joswiak, the company’s senior vice president of marketing, is certainly clearer. The WWDC will take place on the virtual stage from June 1st. If you want to watch, the event will be streamed throughout the week on the Apple Developer app, the Apple Developer website and YouTube. This year’s conference will also offer video sessions and the opportunity to get in touch with Apple designers and engineers and “interact with the global developer community.”
