Seven-year-old boy killed by sandstone weighing 150 kilos

Despite first aid measures being administered immediately, he had no chance. In Appenweier near Offenburg, a stored boulder tipped over and killed a child. The public prosecutor’s office is now investigating.

A tragic accident shakes the 10,000-inhabitant community of Appenweier Baden-Württemberg. A seven-year-old boy was killed there on Saturday evening by a boulder weighing around 150 kilograms. This was announced by the Offenburg police headquarters.

Boy is killed by boulders in Appenweier

According to the information, the two-meter-long sandstone pillar was to be removed shortly and was temporarily stored on the property of a residential building. For reasons still unknown, the stone tipped over – and killed the child. Relatives fought for the boy’s life and alerted rescue workers. However, the resuscitation measures were unsuccessful. The seven-year-old died at the scene of the accident.

The Offenburg public prosecutor’s office is now investigating why the rock could have fallen on the child and whether there are anyone responsible for the accident. An expert was also called in for this purpose.
