When a Hannah Arendt reading recently had to be canceled at the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin because activists made the event impossible, a slogan could be heard that has already appeared in similar actions elsewhere: “Against White Supremacy.” The slogan arises from the view that has been circulating in many places for several years that Israel is a “white supremacy state.” The underlying background premise, the figure of the “white Jew”, also played a role in the interview in which Whoopi Goldberg stated in 2022 that the Holocaust was not primarily about “race”, but about “white on white violence”.
