The Japanese car company continues to have difficulties with its production. After computer problems and hacker attacks, an accident at a supplier has resulted in some production lines coming to a standstill.
One of the largest car companies in the world is once again struggling with production losses. According to its own information, Toyota had to stop production again in parts.
As a company spokesman announced, three production lines at two locations were shut down following an accident at a supplier. The company said that production of minivans such as the Alphard and some Land Cruiser models for overseas markets was affected. A decision should be made today as to whether production in the affected plants can be resumed tomorrow.
Chain reaction caused by explosion
The incident at the supplier Chuo Spring, which produces engine and valve springs for vehicles, also led to a production stop at the group subsidiaries Toyota Auto Body and Toyota Industries. A spokesman for Chuo Spring said an explosion in a building at the Fujioka plant on Monday damaged the facility. Police and fire departments investigated the incident.
The production lines at Toyota have already come to an unscheduled standstill several times this year. In August, a computer problem brought all production lines at the car manufacturer Toyota’s factories in Japan to a standstill. The company had to stop work at all 14 assembly plants. The culprit is a problem in the parts order management system, which means that the parts required for production can no longer be procured.
Over a dozen factories affected by hacker attack
In February, the company suffered a hacker attack, which also led to a production stop at all Japanese plants. 14 factories were affected, and production also came to a standstill in the plants of the subsidiaries Hino and Daihatsu. The hacker attack had previously occurred at the component manufacturer Kojima Press Industries. Toyota normally produces around 13,000 vehicles per day in Japan. The group employs around 70,000 people in the country.
