Annual review at RTL: people, pictures, mutations – media

Looking back, 2021 is already the year of returnees. Abba, Wetten … dass, TV Total, the Zonk. Seen in this way, it is an event when someone says goodbye for a change instead of coming back. Günther Jauch on Sunday evening in the year of the returnees as an anti-cyclical counter-proposal to all who cannot or do not want to or are not allowed to let go. After 25 years for the last time “People, Pictures, Emotions” on RTL, which for the second time in a row would have been classified more appropriately with the title “People, Pictures, Mutations”. But Corona came later, at least in this program.

Instead, appropriate to the occasion: first a very, very detailed review of Jauch’s life, work and impact, designed with the help of the old friend Thomas Gottschalk present in the studio and the young ZDF child reporter Alexander, who named AfD thought leader Tino Chrupalla in the summer Favorite poem asked. But of course he hadn’t known any. A highlight of the year, the comforting moments of which were thinly shaken. What you also noticed was that at the end of the year 2021 the old footballer Lukas Podolski was suddenly sitting in the studio, talking to Jauch about an autograph card on which he was called “Lukas Podilski”, which is certainly remarkable, but not yet in that sense Sensation. In any case, nothing like the message unfortunately hidden in the fast forward: In the zoo of Vladivistock a cat has adopted eight orphaned hedgehog babies.

Gradually, however, the pattern became visible: If you look back on the current crisis year, in which you look back on the last 25 years, the current crisis year then goes down a bit.

Bushido was there and said he was very predestined, but said he might be privileged. Olympic tennis champion Alexander Zverev was there and talked about Protestants, but possibly meant protesters. Boris Becker was there and said what he could have said in any of the past 25 years: “Tennis is a very psychological game.” The German Nobel Prize winner Benjamin List presented a handstand at the same time as Jauch, the journalist Theresa Breuer reported on her remarkable airlift, with which she saved 1000 people from Afghanistan, which fell back to the Taliban in 2021. But, you can also see that when looking back: in the end, the question of Corona dominates in you too. When is it over and what kind of rubble will it leave behind? Seen in this way, the appearance of Wolfgang Schäuble had its value, which whispered: “I believe that you win elections even if you expect something from the people before the elections.” He knows that this is not true, but will hardly stand for elections. Not having to line up can also be nice, host Jauch will be able to empathize with him.

Maybe something remarkable will happen before the turn of the year

In the end, as always, the strange feeling that the annual review comes too early before Nicholas because the year still has a good three weeks in which it can cause all sorts of things. The tsunami struck the Asian coastal areas on Boxing Day in 2004, and the dictator couple Ceaușescu were executed on Boxing Day in 1989. These and many other events that shape world events were not considered in the annual reviews because the planners in the editorial offices always bring the end of the year a few weeks forward, for technical reasons of course. And because people secretly believe that they can take the clock out of the hand of the world spirit and turn it. Which of course means he overestimates himself again.

So what remains at the end of the last review of the year with Günther Jauch: to wait a few more weeks for the end of the crisis year. If only it was already over.
