The US broadcaster ABC announces a new “Bachelor” show for seniors. Does RTL go along with the format?

How Variety magazine reports, the US broadcaster ABC has announced another offshoot of the successful format “The Bachelor” for the coming fall. In the new format, this time women in the prime of their youth should not compete for the favor of an equally crisp bachelor. Rather, the new reality show is described as “a whole new kind of love story – one for the golden years”.

“Hopeless Romantics Looking for a Dating”

According to the press release, the “Golden Bachelor” will each be a “hopeless romantic” who is “given a second chance at love, looking for a partner with whom to spend the last… years of his life can share”.

The same applies to the future candidates of the new show. They, too, have “lifelong experiences, having experienced love, loss and laughter and hoping for a spark that will ignite a future of infinite possibility”.

As the broadcaster goes on to say, the idea of a bachelor’s “senior season” has existed for some time, but has not yet been put into practice.

“The Golden Bachelor” – soon on RTL?

Since the German “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” formats (also via RTL+) are always closely based on the American models of the original broadcaster ABC, it is quite conceivable that the German broadcaster RTL will follow suit with a similar “Bachelor” spin-off for older viewers.
