Anna Netrebko is suing New York’s Met culture

The most famous opera singer in the world, Anna Netrebko, wants $360,000 from the most famous opera house in the USA, the New York Met. Not for future performances, but because she is no longer allowed to sing at the Met, although a number of performances there have been agreed . Immediately after the Russian attack on Ukraine, Met boss Peter Gelb demanded that Netrebko distance himself from Vladimir Putin, whom she had supported in an election campaign. She was silent at first, then spoke out against the war. Yellow was not enough, Russia was too much. She was no longer able to perform there, but even large western houses were hesitant. But now she is back in Verona, Paris, Vienna, Berlin and Milan. Because Netrebko is still a box office magnet. But Prague is currently checking whether a Netrebko concert in October should be canceled. And the Met continues to say no to Netrebko nights. Now such a no can be expensive for political reasons. In February, Netrebko was awarded $210,000 for missed Met performances after a complaint from the American Guild of Musical Artists. The Met describes the lawsuit as “worthless”.
