“I denounce a predatory attitude,” declared Anna Mouglalis in “C l’hebdo”, Saturday, on France 5. The actress explained why she testified in the Mediapart investigation about the director Philippe Garrel. This article, posted online in August, and based on the stories of several actresses, suggests that the filmmaker would have requested sexual relations in exchange for a role.
“It’s always much easier when you haven’t suffered rape or sexual assault to speak out. I wanted to do it,” said Anna Mouglalis on the set of France 5.
“I sent him back”
In 2013, she filmed under the direction of Philippe Garrel for the film Jealousy. Some time later, he asked her to submit texts talking about female desire. “I suggested that he read extracts from texts. And during that moment when he came to my house, he went and lay down on my bed. He wanted me to explain female desire to him in a way that was probably a little more literal. There was no desire, so I sent it back,” said the 45-year-old actress.
The host of “C l’hebdo” then reported that the director had justified his need to lie down by “pain” and “discomfort”. “Given the geography of my apartment, he had room to lie down without getting on my bed,” explained Anna Mouglalis.
To Mediapart, Philippe Garrel reacted as follows: “After reading all these testimonies, I realize the difference between what I imagined then and what I made them experience. I had already become aware of the culture that shaped me, and this opened up a questioning process in me.”
