Animation stars reunite with fans for 60th hybrid edition

  • The Annecy Festival, of which it is the 60th edition, is held both face-to-face and online, from June 14 to 19, 2021.
  • On the program, hundreds of short films, around fifty features, including twelve for the official competition alone, works in progress, masterclasses, meetings and dedications while respecting barrier gestures.
  • Two films take advantage of the Festival to come out: the Japanese “Josée, the tiger and the fish”, Wednesday in theaters, and the latest Pixar, “Luca”, Friday on Disney +.

Accreditations, from 20 euros, for the “Most beautiful of festivals”, can satisfy all cinema appetites. Unseen films, we will see them everywhere, all the time, in theaters and on screens, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., curfew requires. Two hundred short and fifty long. Those whom the next Caesar ceremony will consider the best of the year. Let us recall the last award-winning feature films: My Zucchini Life (2016), I lost my body (2019), Calamity (2020)…

twelve feature films selected in official competition, among which a strong Japanese presence with three films or Crossing by the Frenchwoman Florence Miailhe.

And then there are all the short films, the preferred format of professionals, “the nobility of animation”, as it is called. Marcel Jean : “This is where we see creation expressing itself most freely, the major themes that stir us up,” he explains to 20 minutes. This is where all the daring is revealed, that the filmmakers cut their teeth before embarking on feature films that are much more expensive, and therefore necessarily more consensual. It is also in short films, more responsive to current events, that we will see films inspired by the pandemic or containment. “
