In a vineyard in the Palatinate, a winemaker finds dog mother Mira – shortly before the birth of her ten puppies. Now the offspring is here, including appropriate names.

In “Weinland-Pfalz” it was probably not difficult to find names for ten puppies after a winemaker recently discovered a heavily pregnant dog in a vineyard in the Palatinate. When the offspring was born, they were named entirely after wine varieties – the little ones are now called Chardonnay, Domina, Dornfelder, Kerner, Merlot, Regent, Riesling, Rivana, Silvana and Syrah.

“We always try to use the names to create a connection to history,” said Simone Jurijiw, the chairwoman of the animal protection association Frankenthal, who runs an animal shelter in the Rhineland-Palatinate city. Kangal mother Mira and her pack have been staying there since the discovery. It is not known who may have simply abandoned the dog in the vineyard.

There are a few people interested in the puppies, said Jurijiw. First, the animal shelter wants to wait and see how the dogs develop.
