The police in Bad Kreuznach went on a rather unusual mission yesterday: a so-called serval had escaped from its owner and caused astonishment in the neighborhood.

A big cat has on Friday in a residential area of ​​the Rhineland-Palatinate city Bad Kreuznach up to mischief. Several residents of the Planing district had alerted the police during the day after sighting the so-called serval there. The police announced this in the morning.

After the search for the animal was initially unsuccessful, the police determined its owner. He confirmed that the predator had escaped him in the morning. As a police spokeswoman said, according to initial investigations, the holder was a local resident. With the appropriate permission, keeping servals is allowed.

After the emergency services of the fire brigade and employees of the veterinary office combed the residential area again in the evening, they finally found the big cat and were able to capture it – “safely”, as the message said. The serval is an African big cat with yellowish fur and black spots. Servals are usually more aggressive than house cats and can be dangerous.
