A 65-year-old man has gone missing in Queensland, Australia. After days of searching, the police now report: He was probably eaten by a crocodile.
Human remains have been found inside a crocodile’s stomach five days after a fisherman went missing in Australia’s tropical north. “Police believe the remains are those of the missing 65-year-old man but the formal identification process is pending,” Queensland Police said on Wednesday.
The man suddenly disappeared while fishing on the Kennedy River in Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park on Saturday. The river is notorious for its large crocodile population. Despite a thorough search in the dangerous waters, there was no trace of the man for days.
On Tuesday night, rangers from the Ministry of the Environment finally discovered two crocodiles, 4 and 3 meters long, near the place where the angler was last seen. Both were euthanized and autopsied. After the human remains were found, the search for the man was stopped, the police said.
