A dead penguin is found in Rostock Zoo. But the animal did not die a natural death. The neck injuries are too severe for that. Now a special action should bring information.

After a probably violently killed man in the Rostock Zoo in the morning Penguin was found, the criminal police have started the investigation. A police spokeswoman said that the suspicion of trespassing was initially being investigated.

“The first search for clues is over. The penguin has massive injuries on its neck. There must be an external influence.” According to media reports, the animal is said to have been decapitated. The spokeswoman could not confirm this. “You can’t speak of that.”

Autopsy should shed some light

What specifically led to the death of the animal should now be clarified by an autopsy. For this, the animal was brought to the State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. “They’ll take a closer look at it now, then we can first say what was the cause. We hope that the autopsy will take us a big step forward in the investigation.”

According to the first reports, no other animals at the zoo in Rostock were injured. A zookeeper had found the lifeless body in the penguin enclosure.
