Animal keeper feeds neglected parrot back to health – with success

See in the video “Neglected 40-year-old parrot nursed back by zoo keeper”

This is Cracker, he’s about 40 years old.

If you look at him like this and compare his age to other pets, you would think he is already an old parrot grandpa. But appearances are deceptive. Depending on the species, parrots can live up to 100 years.

Dirty feathers, a big bump on the back and an overgrown beak. Cracker’s previous owners simply hadn’t cared about him anymore

Ever since 37-year-old animal keeper Emily took care of the 40-year-old bird, it has really blossomed.

“Birds are extremely intelligent and good at recognizing intentions. I think he could tell in his own way that I was trying to help him.” – Emily

With her, he is bathed, his severely overgrown beak trimmed and the bump examined.

“The biggest difference was seen after his bath, birds really don’t like being dirty and I think he was very relieved.” – Emily

Now the shared life begins for Cracker: He now stays with Emily and lives with her and two other fellows.

“It’s really rewarding to see animals make such a U-turn and to see the relief in their eyes.”
