Glamorous and casual

In one photo, Jolie can be seen in a glamorous look, in the other she is hardly recognizable with horn-rimmed glasses and a beige knitted sweater. “Maria” will focus on the singer’s last days in Paris in the 1970s and retell the “turbulent, wonderful and tragic story” of the Greek-American opera singer. According to Deadline Filming is currently taking place over eight weeks in Paris, Greece, Budapest and Milan.

The film, for which there is an interim agreement with the acting union SAG-AFTRA, will also feature Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino (54), colleague Alba Rohrwacher (44) and Australian actor Kodi Smit-McPhee (27). The script, which was completed before the writers’ strike, comes from Steven Knight (64, “Peaky Blinders”). It is produced by Fabula, Komplizen Film and The Apartment.

Larraín, who also directed “Spencer” and “Jackie,” said in a statement: “I am delighted to begin production on ‘Maria,’ which I hope will reflect the remarkable life and work of Maria Callas will be brought to audiences around the world thanks to Steven Knight’s great script, the work of the entire cast and crew and, above all, Angelina’s brilliant work and exceptional preparation.”

According to Deadline, Jolie’s costumes are based on Callas’ original outfits. The production consulted with animal protection organizations such as PETA about using old fur pieces from the archives of costume designer Massimo Cantini Parrini (51) and consciously decided not to use or procure any new fur.
