Angelina Jolie claims Brad Pitt was abusive to her before 2016 plane incident

In a motion filed Thursday with the Superior Court of Los Angeles, in connection with the former couple’s legal battle over Miraval Castle, the actress assured that Brad Pitt’s physical abuse began “well before 2016” .

The legal battle between Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt continues unabated. On Thursday, April 4, the actress filed a motion with the Los Angeles Superior Court, in which she claims that “Brad Pitt’s history of physical violence began well before 2016.”

In legal documents made public in October 2022, the actress accused her ex-husband of having been violent with her and their children during a private flight from France to California in 2016. Six days after this trip, Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from Brad Pitt.

According to these new documents relayed by CNNAngelina Jolie, however, did not give details of this alleged abuse but indicates that she never filed a complaint against Brad Pitt at the time because she thought that “the best solution was for him to accept responsibility and help the family to recover from the post-traumatic stress it (had) caused.”

Signing a confidentiality agreement

In her request, the 48-year-old actress also discusses the dispute which has opposed her to Brad Pitt for several years around the Miraval Castlewinery that the couple owned in France, in the Var, before their divorce.

After their separation, Angelina Jolie sold its shares in the estate in 2021 to Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli group, controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. A sale against which Brad Pitt filed a complaint in June 2023.

Because according to the actor, his former wife would have resold her shares “in secret” even though they had agreed upon the purchase of the property – 60% owned by Brad Pitt and 40% by Angelina Jolie – “to never sell without the consent of one or the other.

In her new request, filed Thursday, Angelina Jolie, however, declares that she tried to sell her stake in this field to Brad Pitt. But, according to the actress, their negotiations ultimately failed after the actor conditioned this sale on the signing, by Angelina Jolie, of a confidentiality agreement “about her aggression”.

According to the motion relayed by CNN, this agreement “prohibited Jolie from ‘mentioning (other than in court) abuse committed by Pitt against Jolie and their children by attempting to link Pitt’s personal reputation to Miraval’s affairs.’

“Totally false” claims

The actress nevertheless specifies that she agreed to sign a confidentiality agreement which was limited to not denigrating Miraval’s wine activities as part of her original agreement with Brad Pitt to sell his shares in the wine estate, which they were on about to be finalized at the time.

“Mr. Pitt refused to purchase Ms. Jolie’s interests when she did not want to be silenced by her confidentiality agreement,” Paul Murphy, Angelina Jolie’s lawyer, said in a statement sent to CNN.

After an investigation by the FBI, Brad Pitt was never arrested or charged for accusations of violence on the part of Angelina Jolie. For his part, the actor has always denied these allegations which he described as “totally false” through his spokesperson.
