After Monaco and Switzerland, the Principality of Andorra announced on Tuesday its intention to apply economic sanctions against Russia and Belarus after the invasion of Ukraine. The head of his government, Xavier Espot, announced on Tuesday that the small Pyrenean state would follow the sanction measures taken by the European Union.
He will present a bill on Wednesday which will give “legal certainty” to the principality to apply them “to individuals and companies so that their accounts can be blocked or to prevent them from operating with financial institutions in the country”. At present, the Andorran legal system does not allow this.
This is the first time in its history that Andorra would have to take sanctions against a foreign country.
