And the viewer also wants to bite into it after discovering this fabulous animated film co-directed by Chiara Malta and Sébastien Laudenbach and awarded the Cristal for best feature film at the Annecy Festival. The authors have a talent for attracting spectators, as much as their young heroine asking for a “chicken with peppers” from her mother after the latter punished her unjustly.
“Its demand goes far beyond gastronomy,” explains Chiara Malta to 20 minutes. She awakens a past that the daughter and mother will have to face. » Alas, a general strike prevents people from going to the supermarket. You will therefore have to obtain a live poultry, the quest of which will offer varied adventures. “We wanted the viewer to understand where the chicken that the two heroines are going to eat comes from,” explains Sébastien Laudenbach.
A “food movie”
This results in a film with vibrant colors, as full of life as young Linda and her friends who help her make her wish come true. Burlesque often appears in the relationships between eccentric characters like a clumsy police officer or an authoritarian big sister. “Our film is “Buffo” as they say in Italian. He has a decidedly clownish and fanciful side, underlines Chiara Malta. This ode to solidarity combines an original aesthetic with refined lines and a joyful generosity of feeling when the entire city in which the heroines live participates in their quest.
“We wanted to make a joyful film in which food is represented in an appetizing way like in certain Japanese films,” explains Sébastien Laudenbach. It was interesting to try to convey the taste through images. » Tasting the famous dish is a feast for the eyes, giving the impression of being invited to the feast.
Chicken with peppers
