“Our Songs” is the name of the new album by the singer with the raspy voice, and it contains English versions of German hits. The Toten Hosen, the Scorpions and Unheilig are among the covered artists.

There is hardly anything with which stars from abroad can make Germans more happy than noticing their mere existence, it sometimes seems. In any case, pop star Anastacia is causing enthusiastic outcry – because she announced a whole album with English-language cover versions of German hits. Almost as exciting as back in the 60s and 70s, when some bands translated their English songs for the German audience in a manner that was as charming as it was awkward. “Come Give Me Your Hand” by The Beatles is a good example.

Maybe you haven’t thought about Anastacia for a long time? The woman with the Bono sunglasses and the deep, grating voice actually had her most successful time in the 2000s – but then she produced real catchy tunes with songs like “Paid My Dues”, “I’m Outta Love” or “Sick And Tired”, that have been playing up and down the radio for years. And all while enduring breast cancer therapy. Anastacia was a superstar in Germany for several years.

Now she’s speaking out again and doing something very clever: she’s flattering an audience that has always loved her better than those in her native America. And she takes his hits – and makes them internationally usable. One thing is already clear: numerous Germans will be curious to listen to the new record (which will be called “Our Songs” and will be released in September), and for fans in other countries these are simply catchy songs, and in many cases they probably even have a history of them not knowing. A win-win situation.

The first single release, “Best Days”, is based on the Tote-Hosen hit “Days Like This” and its frontman Campino is said to have reacted enthusiastically to Anastacia’s plans. Even “proud” he was, says the singer. Another hit she wants to anglicize on her album: “Born to Live” by Unheilig. Two other hits are already in English: Alphaville’s “Forever Young” and the Scorpions’ power ballad “Still Loving You”. More is not yet known about the tracklist of the new record – but it is to be hoped that even more surprising numbers will be included.

In any case, “Best Days” is available from today on all streaming platforms.
