Russell: Mercedes “certainly not in front”
The Mercedes newcomer does not currently see his employer at the top. “Some teams look pretty fast,” he says, explaining that McLaren and Ferrari in particular have been “very, very competitive” so far. Compared to the competition, Mercedes is “certainly not ahead,” said Russell.
You don’t just look at the bare times. But the analyzes have shown that Mercedes currently does not have the fastest car. “We’re behind them at the moment,” Russell clarifies, but adds relaxed: “The championship won’t be won at the winter test in Barcelona.”
There is still more than enough time to turn things around.

Media round cancelled
After Haas team boss Günther Steiner had already canceled for the PK today, the planned media round with Nikita Masepin has now been canceled. Of course, from the team’s point of view, given the circumstances, it’s understandable. But sooner or later you will also have to comment on the currently difficult topics …
The most important thing about the second day of testing…
… we have summarized this for you in this photo series!

Sainz: New Formula 1 feels different
The Spaniard also commented on this. The cars feel “different” than in previous years, he explains, adding: “Until we’ve really pushed the limit, we won’t know exactly where the differences are. But I can already feel that there are some differences gives.”
On the subject of porpoising, he says some cars do it more than others. “It depends on what set-up you drive and whether you use DRS or not. It’s a whole new world,” says Sainz, who assumes that the topic could accompany us all year round.
Sainz: Times aren’t worth much
Best time for Ferrari today, but the Spaniard warns against overestimating it now. “I do not know if [der Test] It was good or bad because in these Formula 1 cars you can go three or four seconds faster or slower if you want. So we don’t know where everyone is.” The picture could still be completely distorted.
In any case, he is satisfied with the “reliable car” that he has had so far. “That gives us time to look for performance,” he explains, noting that they haven’t even remotely reached the limit. You will only see how good Ferrari really is in the first race.
“Or maybe even later in the year,” said Sainz.

final phase
No longer looking for an improvement at the top, the second day of testing is about to end. But of course we will continue in the coming hours! Here in the ticker you can expect voices and information about today’s events in Barcelona – and of course our live analysis.
“porpoising”
In theory, we’ve already talked about it. Now you must have asked yourself what the phenomenon looks like in practice. Here is the answer:
Perez faster than Verstappen
The Mexican moves up to P7 with a 1:21.4 after slipping to second from bottom at one point. This also puts him faster than Verstappen, who only clocked a 1:22.2 yesterday. The fastest Red Bull time of the tests so far. And above all, after the messed up start to the afternoon, he can now reel off important kilometers again.
Meanwhile, the last 15 minutes are running.
New record
Meanwhile, Leclerc is at the front again and lowers the best time to 1:19.689. Let’s see if we can beat Norris’ 1:19.5 yesterday. Incidentally, Leclerc himself will not care much, because yesterday he also made a clear statement about the importance of the times.
Hamilton last
Now Ocon runs another 1:22.1 and pushes Hamilton into last place. At the latest, this should now be proof that these times are completely unrepresentative. Completely dependent on Russell driving the same car two seconds faster than the record world champion today…
times
So far it hasn’t been enough for the front, but several drivers have improved again. Gasly has now also made the leap to 1:19 times on C4 tires. This is what it looks like half an hour before the end:
1. Leclerc (Ferrari) – 1:19.804 (C3)
2. Gasly (AlphaTauri) – 1:19.918 (C4)
3. Ricciardo (McLaren) – 1:20.288 (C4)
4. Russell (Mercedes) – 1:20.537 (C3)
5. Sainz (Ferrari) – 1:20.546 (C3)
6th Vettel (Aston Martin) – 1:20.784 (C3)
7. Albon (Williams) – 1:21.531 (C3)
8. Latifi (Williams) – 1:21.894 (C3)
9. Stroll (Aston Martin) – 1:21.920 (C3)
10. Schumacher (Haas) – 1:21.949 (C3)
11. Masepin (Haas) – 1:22.046 (C3)
12. Zhou (Alfa Romeo) – 1:22.239 (C3)
13. Bottas (Alfa Romeo) – 1:22.288 (C3)
14.Perez (Red Bull) – 1:22.412 (C2)
15.Hamilton (Mercedes) – 1:22.562 (C2)
16. Ocon (Alpine) – 1:23.280 (C2)
Schumacher conclusion
The German is satisfied with his morning. “After not being able to drive much yesterday, today we concentrated on doing as many laps as possible and trying out a few things accordingly. I found that everything we tried felt good,” he reports explains that they have “a pretty good idea of what we want to do.”
His full conclusion is here!
