An ongoing forest fire in the Hautes-Alpes east of Gap, 32 hectares and several houses burned

A fire broke out on Wednesday August 23 in Crots, a village in the Hautes-Alpes. 32 hectares and several houses have been burned, and firefighters fear the flames will spread. Nearly 140 firefighters are on site.

CODIS confirms a new forest fire in the Hautes-Alpes. On Wednesday August 23, a fire broke out in Crots, east of Gap. “The Fire Is Not Fixed”, explain the relief, this Thursday, August 24. According to the CODIS report, 32 hectares were burned, “and there is still a significant risk of spread”.

Two houses and a barn have been “impacted” by fire, according to firefighters. The town hall announced on Facebook that the hamlet of Bois has been evacuated, and is appealing for help from volunteers.

144 firefighters are mobilized, coming from the Alpes-Maritimes, Hautes-Alpes, Bouches-du-Rhône, the battalion of firefighters from Marseille and Gard, as well as a civil security helicopter. The four Canadairs and the Dash aircraft present on site yesterday, Wednesday August 23, returned to base for the night. Witnesses had seen them flying over the area to fight the flames.

The fire would probably have started from a combine harvester, specifies the CODIS. Earlier this week, another fire broke out in the department at Chanousse.
