“Hello, my name is Luis and today I’m in Paris to test the top 5 best croissants. We will see which is the best, ”launches the youtuber, in the heart of a Parisian demonstration against the reform of the retirement age at 64. Originally from Bologna, Italy, this 25-year-old videographer multiplies original and stuffed second-degree formats. It is on Paris that he has set his sights for his latest video, in which he depicts the encounter between two French clichés: croissants and demonstrations.
With the aim of classifying the best croissants according to a tasting in front of the camera, the youtuber with 1.67 million subscribers goes on bakeries. In turn, a croissant comes out in his hand. Taste, texture, visual, decoration of the bakery or even geographical location, Luis delivers his stuffed second-degree comments.
CRS, traffic lights and second degree
“This one is the most air-filled. As soon as you touch it, it becomes flat, ”he says before tasting a croissant out of the oven from the Carton bakery, a stone’s throw from the Gare du Nord, in the 10th arrondissement in Paris. “But the neighborhood is not the best. I mean, there’s a Subway, a Pub, a Popeyes Chicken, a train station… And usually in Europe when there’s a train station and a McDonald’s, there aren’t good people. It’s hard to find good quality in such a touristy place,” he comments.
But like that of many tourists passing through Paris, his tasting of French specialties is disrupted by very regular demonstrations due to the mobilization against pension reform whose opponents regularly parade through the streets of the capital. Masked demonstrators, lines of CRS, fires in the middle of the streets or even stoned advertising signs, the decorations around Luis are all witnesses of the tension which crosses France.
